Think About Tomorrow

“Think About Tomorrow” is my response in the fight against climate change.  It is a call to action.  I believe that climate change is the single most important issue facing humanity today.  Scientists from three major universities have said Earth has prematurely entered the sixth mass extinction period, in large part, due to climate change caused by excess carbon in the atmosphere.  We desperately need to act now, and act quickly if we want our children to have a habitable planet.

Unfortunately, climate change has become highly politicized, and many of our “lawmakers” (by lawmakers, I am referring to the money grubbing criminals that we’ve elected to Congress) have chosen to question, and often, outright deny scientific fact and evidence.  The problem with this, is that science is apolitical.  Science doesn’t care that the majority of Congress has denied or questioned climate change.  Science doesn’t care that a recent Gallup poll found that a quarter of the American population doesn’t believe in climate change.

To quote “Last Week Tonight’s” John Oliver: “Who gives a shit? You don’t need people’s opinion on a fact. You might as well have a poll asking: “Which number is bigger, 15 or 5?” or “Do owls exist?” or “Are there hats?”  Let’s move on from the ridiculous questions, and DO SOMETHING significant, NOW!

Think About Tomorrow

Verse 1

Reports from all around, say our world is going down

Every plant will soon be brown, and humans did it

With our monster SUVs, our burning of the trees

All our waste and greed.  It’s disgusting

As mother earth gets hotter,   I can’t help but wonder

Is this the beginning of the end?

Science gives concrete facts, so how can we deny them?

Chorus

We can’t live for just today, we must think about tomorrow

We have a moral obligation, to future generations

To respect the land we borrow

Let’s take the lead, stop the greed, intercede

So tomorrow will proceedPhoto property of klorotechpavers.com

Verse 2

Money pollutes the mind,   as carbon pollutes the air

Our lawmakers don’t care, cuz they’ve been paid off

By the oil companies, that have monopolies

Enslaved to us to dirty energy.   Is there a way out?

When money is our only God, devastation is certain.

Can we pull back the curtain?

It’s difficult to think about, but we need to realize:

Bridge

It seems human nature is to take and not give

But this cycle will make us cease to live

There are no redos, this planet is it

Home destruction, a guilt we won’t admit

Trying to save the world, one lyric at a time.

I wrote this poem, soon to be song last night.  It expresses some frustrations I have about being a young (ish) person in this day and age.

Blissful Drift

Flyin’ through the night, no cares about pain or strife

We’re still young, but not for long, like tired motifs in a pop song

We’re overused and underpaid, In brains, a barren land is laid

We need to fight, but we’re distracted, by chemicals and interactions

Everybody’s talkin’ about this blissful drift, a blissful drift, on this sinking ship

Don’t know where we’re gonna end up, World wide blitz

World wide blitz in a blissful drift,  World wide blitz, we need a culture shift

As children we get told we’re special, Better than the rest

Taught to dream, and to succeed, to be complicit in man’s greed

As adults we’re catapulted, a free fall to the ground

Living well is too expensive, we swim, we sink, we drown

Tess’s first blog!!

Hello to my family, friends, and visitors!

Welcome to my blog.  Thank you for stopping by!  I decided to create an online space where I can post my artistic process for songwriting and music.  I also want to use this space to post my thoughts on life, current events, and social activism.  My emphasis here is process, so everything I post will be a work in progress.  Be warned, I will not censor any of the material I post.  That said, I will try to be as respectful as possible and give a heads up, in terms of trigger warnings, profanity, or anything else that might be NSFW/NSFC.  I’m so excited to begin sharing my work!  Happy reading, listening, and watching.

Love,

Tess
